Blu ray will be much better quality than you backup.

I have friends that backup bluray into some type of mp4 format and then burn it onto a dvd. Its near bluray quality but it can only be played on computers or special players.

I know DVDFab claims to offer Blue Ray ripping capabilities.  Never tried it though.

i think he puts it on some h264 format (whatever that means).
