Prayer request
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:34:10 PM »
I am back in Wichita, my "step Mom" the one that raised me, is in the final stages of Ahlsheimers. Lost "real Mom" last year, and life is a SOB at the end. Been here for a week, Dad is incredible for 86. Love and kisses, but life sucks some times.

Cruel is very very accurate.  If my mind goes, I want to be executed.

Oh man. Curses of modern medicine - we keep our loved ones around far too long.

Prayers for your family, Ed. Gotta be an awful trial.

I am so sorry to hear this Ed. I lost my paternal grandma to this disease more than 10 years before she passed on. My aunt also has it.

The worst part about Alzheimers is the fact that you can stay physically healthy for years.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family Ed, Stay tough and be strong.

That is for sure Phil, the modern medicine just drags it out much longer. Her Father passed fairly quickly with the same disease in 1981, now this has been going on for a very long time.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I think early on when the pt realizes that they are forgetting things its extremely cruel. That being said, IMO, pts with moderate or even advanced dementia tend to be the happiest people I know (mainly because they dont remember alot of the sorrows in their life).

Does your step mom have an advanced directive or DNR orders on her?

The cruelest part of this disease is what it does to the family.

Yes to the DNR, for over a year.

Thanks again everyone, I am kind of embarrassed for starting this thread, but was deep into rum and sorrow at the time. I am back home now and hope everything is well with you all.

Oh, please don't be. I can't speak for everybody else but I'm glad to see our friends share on this site. I like to think we're all friends.
