Dad and I are building an office at the farm. I have no idea what kind of lighting to put in it.
A little description of the building. We built it so it could become a house if our needs changed in the future. It's about 1500 sq ft (30X54) and will have 2 offices, a large commons area, a kitchen, a small bathroom and a small storage room. Anyway, it is a linear A-framed structure (to keep it simple, which should be read: cheap as possible while making it hell for stout).
The thing that makes it difficult to light is that instead of buying roof trusses, we (read our contractor) built our own. The interior ceiling will not be flat. It will follow the roof line until about 2/3 of the way to the peak and then will flatten out to hold ductwork. It will look something like this:

That's a piss poor drawing, but without driving out there and taking pictures, I don't know how else to explain it. Anyway, the 2 office ceilings will have half of the ceiling. So what we're looking at is lighting a room that has a damn tall ceiling with a flat spot at one end and then following the roofline. It is going to have a ceiling fan in it. I imagine there will be a light fixture attached, but the room will likely be too big for that to be the only lighting.
Now about the lights, I absolutely despise incandescent lights. All the lights in my house are daylight CFL bulbs. I want it bright, and crisp so I can see WTF is going on. It bears repeating. I hate incandescent lights. Unless they are about 150 Watts, they are worthless. I like white lights and I like it bright.
Every office I've ever worked in has had fluorescent (stick) lights. I'd like to stay away from those if possible. If I've got my story straight, the frequency of the light coming out of fluorescents is very low and creates a strobe light effect which makes it hard to read.
Anyway, any ideas you may have would be appreciated.
Thanks.
