Q: What's up with the name?
A: We wanted a name that conveyed the point that we don't take ourselves too seriously. We also want people to know that there are diverse discussions taking place on this site. Of the available .com names, this one made sense for us at the time. It still does.
Q: There's a lot of forums here. I don't like that.
A: My Forum will be a per-user configurable view of the forums that you're interested in. To the users of My Forum it will appear that the board has a sub forum which is a rollup of your favorite forums, keeping you from having to switch back and forth between a bunch of sub-forums. So, for now, we'll all have to deal a little with the segmentation, but we promise it will be worth it in the end. For now, the "Show unread posts since last visit." and "Show new replies to your posts." features (available in the top left corner of every screen) are very good tools which behave similarly - that is, consolidating all the forums into the appearance of a single forum.
Q: You keep talking about "vision". What does that mean and why should I care?
A: Many of the people involved with this project have come from discussion forums with very specialized interests. We desire to create a diverse community open to people with all sorts of interests and give them the ability to customize their experience to their liking. This is what we intend to deliver and we think it's a slight focus departure from other sites on the internet. We hope you like it. If you don't, please stick around anyway. We need lots of people to pick on. It gets boring throwing rocks at the same idiots all the time.
Q: You seem to censor a lot of words. Is this site really that prudish?
A: No. But there is an option to disable censors if you really want to see swearing uncensored. Go to "Profile" on the top, then "Look and Layout Preferences" on the left, then putting a check mark by "Leave words uncensored."
Q: I thought this was a Chiefs related site?
A: It is - and so much more.... Phobia (me) used to operate the wildly successful chiefsplane t.com and Warpaint Illustrated discussion forums. But my vision always differed from that of those with whom I was partnered. That's why this site exists today.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: We just want to make this site work well for our focus demographic (Kansas City metro and those internet users interested in things relative to that geographic area). When we've conquered our target demographic, we'll evaluate demand and opportunities in other regions but we really want to focus on Kansas City today and let the chips fall where they may tomorrow.
Q: Where's the post count?
A: Post counts themselves are pretty useless and only spur on unnecessary competitiveness and post hogging. Although it generates traffic (in a sense), it does nothing for the actual content of the board.
We ARE interested, however, in identifying and welcoming newcomers to the board. Most people going to a new place tend to come back if they felt welcomed. So if you see someone new ("Just Gettin Started Mouth"), be sure to say hi and help them out with questions, etc.
We've reduced the tiers to only 3 (with "Mouthy" in between), and after 100 posts on the board, you're considered a member, or what we like to call a "Fat Mouth". So, pat yerself on the back, thanks for stickin' around, and welcome to the party...
Q: Where's the option to change posts per page?
A: We'd like to know as well. The SMF software we selected is pretty robust and this is one feature that is curiously missing in this version. There is a major revision update forthcoming and we'll post more about this as we find out.
